Amusement parks, trips, clubs and a variety of fun summer activities await them, ensuring that they receive a childhood without worries, full of happiness and they will amass experiences for life.

Former IDF Chief of General Staff, Aviv Kohavi, visited Zoharim Youth Village yesterday, and was impressed by the high level of motivation of the youth village pupils to enlist in the IDF for a meaningful army service

Mr. Aviv Kohavi, former IDF Chief of General Staff, visited Zoharim Youth Village, where he met pupils about to be inducted into the IDF for a meaningful army service.

Kohavi said:  “From my experience in the army, we can accept people of all types and sorts and teach them about themselves, what they don’t know – this is their power, they have such strength, the strengths they have and where they can reach.  Two years ago, I presented an excellence award to a commander of a commando unit, who until age 18 had been in jail 4 times.  We have base commanders like him, pilots like him, company commanders, intelligence staff, men and women… Experience has taught us throughout history, and especially in the army, that it is only a matter of fostering in them a sense of self confidence and competence.  During this short visit, I have no doubt and it is obvious  – that this is what you do here.

I see the pupils standing up tall, believing in themselves and all this just from a brief visit.   This is extraordinarily impressive, humanitarian activity of the first order.  It is good for the people – encouraging and empowering them, it is good for their families, for Israeli society and the State of Israel.  Consequently, I wish to salute  you Rabbi Grossman!

Rabbi Grossman said:  “It is our privilege and honor to welcome former IDF Chief of General Staff, Aviv Kohavi, active in my spheres, who has taken time from his busy schedule to visit the youth village.  I see the faces of the pupils, who are so happy and excited about your visit here today.  It encourages them to carry on, to dream and realize their potential.

Another year of learning has come to an end at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions and was marked by many celebrations

End of year celebrations at Migdal Ohr’s educational institutions are moments of satisfaction for the educational staff, who watch the pupils playing musical instruments, singing and dancing with confidence on stage. Alongside the investment in relaying knowledge to the pupils, our female and male educators work to empower each boy and girl, strengthen their self confidence and belief in themselves. Those who have experienced despair, failure and fear, now stand on the stage, and are happy and have confidence in themselves.  We say to our educational staff:  “You have succeeded!” We wish to thank all the educators at Migdal Ohr who have given the children an opportunity to grow with love and happiness, to develop and thrive, to realize their potential and succeed. And of course, good luck to our pupils on their continued journey – have an enjoyable summer vacation!

The last step of one journey is the first of a new and exciting journey – Graduates of the 10th class of Zoharim Youth Village, completed their studies yesterday

The last step of one journey is the first of a new and exciting journey – introducing the new graduates of Zoharim Youth Village’s 10th class, celebrated their graduation with a ceremony that left no dry eyes in the audience, especially because everyone in the audience knew the personal story and journey traveled by the graduates in order to reach this exciting moment. The teenage boys standing on the stage have yet to digest the emotional and uplifting journey they have experienced in recent years.  They embarked on this journey and discovered a lot about themselves, about their ability to cope with difficulties and challenges without running away and just how important their will power and belief in themselves is to their continued journey. They met friends for life, worked, studied, received tools – and now, they are continuing their life journey with a large family that will always stand behind them – the Zoharim Family. In his speech to the graduates, Minister of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, Yitzchak Wasserlauf said:  “When I came to Zoharim for the first time, and looked at the pupils with my own eyes, I saw how this youth village had saved them, imbuing them with life, providing them with self confidence that they sorely need, giving them love that they sorely need.  It is not only them, but also their future families, it is future generations.  I wish to acknowledge the pupils who have come a long way, step by step, in order to change, lift themselves up, grow, in order to become important people, to take responsibility for their lives.  This is a privilege.  These are incredible strengths,  All the tools are here, everything necessary to build one’s personality, a leadership personality, leadership for life, to build a  home.  So may I say, you are larger than life!  You are our national resilience!

It’s been twenty years since the Chag Saveah (Full Holiday) for Children Campaign was established. Passover is approaching and Migdal Ohr Association will provide assistance with the distribution of tens of thousands of food packages to families.

The Chag Saveah for Children Campaign began 20 years ago when pupils of the Migdal Ohr educational institutions wished to distribute food packages to needy children unable to have a Passover meal.

The pupils’ initiative grew extensively over the years into an important and vital charitable project, providing assistance to needy families and children across the country until the present time.

As the Passover holiday approaches, Migdal Ohr is operating the national campaign in which it will deliver tens of thousands of packages to needy families across the country.

Together, we will ensure they have a ‘Chag Saveah’!

Shilat Simchon, remedial education and literature teacher at Zoharim Youth Village was chosen as one of the One Hundred Teachers of the Year by the Ministry of Education, which pays tribute to one hundred outstanding educational leaders

Kudos to Shilat Simchon, a remedial education and literature teacher at Zoharim Youth Village, who was chosen as one of the One Hundred Teachers of the Year by the Ministry of Education, which pays tribute to one hundred outstanding educators each year.

To become a teacher and educator means becoming someone who paves the way and serves as a role model of life values in addition to teaching knowledge. Shilat combines all these aspects as part of her special educational mission.

With dedication, perseverance and creative thinking, Shilat motivates the Zoharim Youth Village pupils to learn and expand their horizons. Shilat develops groundbreaking educational initiatives that connect the Zoharim pupils to the learning.  Recently, she has developed an interdisciplinary educational curriculum that combines the pupils’ work in the carpentry workshop with their civics studies in class.  For example, the pupils created chairs in the carpentry workshop and learned about the seats in the Knesset and the election method.  Combining creative worlds, physical labor, experience and learning in class, was a great success and all of the pupils want to take part in this amazing activity developed by Shilat.

We are proud of Shilat for being selected as one of the One Hundred Teachers of the Year and are happy she is one of us.  We are fortunate to have her on our team!

Yesterday, Minister of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, Yitzchak Wasserlauf, visited the Zoharim Youth Village together with its founder, Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman

Yesterday, Minister of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, Yitzchak Wasserlauf, visited the Zoharim Youth Village together with its founder, Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman. The minister spoke with the youth village pupils and heard about their journey, successes and failures that led them to successfully cope throughout their lives with the challenges they faced.

Minister Wasserlauf:  “During adolescence, the soul undergoes upheavals, a search for meaning and confusion.  What unites the teenagers here, which many others lack, is that they spoke up, they were courageous and said they were not prepared to continue with these upheavals, pushed everything aside and came here.  I look at them with admiration and recognition, they have the potential for great achievements.

I will be pleased to see this place grow and with God’s help I will work toward developing this place, which is a beacon of light, so it can welcome more and more young people.”

Rabbi Grossman thanked the minister for his visit and his concern for the pupils and said:  “Your visit has encouraged us to continue to work on behalf of the youth together”.

Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman lights the third candle of Chanuka at the Western Wall together with the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitz and Defense Minister, Mr. Benny Gantz

The lighting of the third candle of Chanuka was held at the Western Wall Plaza, in honor of Jewish Brotherhood and the Unity of the Jewish People, and was attended by thousands of people.

This event was in appreciation of the millions of Jews in Israel and the Diaspora and tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors, who courageously carry the torch of light.

Defense Minister, Benny Gantz noted at the end of the candle lighting ceremony:  “At this holy site, and especially in the presence of the Holocaust survivors whose victory was not a victory of power but of spirit – we must remember that the spiritual and ethical power are one.  If we have spiritual resilience but have no power to protect ourselves we have not accomplished anything, if we can protect ourselves but have no morality or faith, we will lose our path.  Consequently, only a combination of power and spirit, strength on one hand and unity on the other, can Israel move forward with all of its parts, toward the future.”

The Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitz said:  “Here, on the third candle of Chanuka, we call for the unity of the Jewish People.  The Western Wall is the home of all Jews in Israel and overseas.  There is no other place like the Western Wall that symbolizes the terrible price of pure hatred and civil war. Each and every Jew has a connection to this place, especially public servants.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Defense Minister and Culture Minister for their tireless efforts on behalf of Israel.  For the tens of thousands of IDF soldiers who visit the Western Wall each year and for the enormous contribution to the security of Israel.”

In attendance at the event, were the Chief Rabbi of Migdal HaEmek, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman; Minister of Culture and Sport MK, Hili Tropper; Chairman of the JDC, General (Res) Doron Almog; Chairman of the Executive of the World Zionist Organization, Yaakov Hagoel; Director General of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Solly Eliav; Director General of the Claims Conference, Greg Schneider; Chairwoman of the Center Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel, Collette Avital; Chairman of the Israel Claims Conference, Shlomo Gur, together with 100 Holocaust survivors who came especially with the Claims Conference and the Live in Dignity Organization to participate in the candle lighting ceremony, as well as the public at large who tuned in from 15 countries around the world.

We were delighted to host the honorable President of Israel, Yitzchak Herzog at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions

In the midst of preparations for the Chanuka holiday, we were honored to host the President of Israel, Mr. Yitzchak Herzog at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions.  The visit was a ray of sunshine and hope for the Migdal Ohr children, who were excited to meet the honorable President and his wife in person. The President and his wife came for a heartwarming visit and the President told the pupils:  “Each of you, with God’s help, will one day be capable of sitting in the seat of the mayor, the rabbi or in my seat – of becoming someone great in his field, of making an impact on the world and of doing good work, out of concern for your brothers and sister and for the Jewish people”.

Just me and my surfboard! Another session of the surfing course at Zoharim Youth Village – as part of the My Wave Program

The pupils of Zoharim Youth Village arrive at the youth village after having lost their confidence in themselves and their surroundings.  The difficulties that they have experienced, their sense of failure and self-destruction have led them to really dangerous situations; however, they did not give up and chose to change their lives and succeed. At Zoharim Youth Village, the pupils are given a special opportunity to ‘ride the waves’ and make a significant change in their lives, through an experience of surfing the waves, which prepares them to cope with the forces of the sea.  Coping with the sea is comparable to coping with other challenges that the youth encounter in their daily lives –  they fall, there are disappointments, countless trials and a great deal of patience is required until they succeed.  And when they succeed – their sense of pride remains with them outside the sea as well.
