One picture paints a thousand words…But nevertheless, we have decided to tell you about the new photography major at Migdal Ohr’s Shalhevet School

As part of this major, the girls learn about the language of photography and gain experience in practical photography, which expresses their inner world. The curriculum enables them to voice their opinions, share and tell their story, through the photography medium.

In this major, the girls find a place for experiential, emotional and social expression, to voice their opinions and to get a message across using visual tools.  It encourages them to address issues that interest them, that they care about, or that they have experienced themselves.  This is another tool that Migdal Ohr offers the girls in order to develop an ability to honestly and openly express their feelings and thoughts, verbally and visually.

The Shalhevet School was established by Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman for teenage girls at-risk.  The school provides the pupils with support, knowledge and the tools to change their life’s trajectory for the good.

Zoharim Youth Village’s 11th graders went on a challenging trek in the desert, to discover their untapped hidden strengths and competence

Currently, the Zoharim Youth Village 12th  graders are on a 5-day challenging trek in the desert.  They will walk 72 kilometers and be forced to cope with the desert and its challenges by themselves.

This trek helps the pupils get to know the Negev, with their feet, and to get to know their ability to cope with challenges and difficulties that they often avoid in their daily lives.

During the first day, the boys learned to read a map and the stars, to navigate, light a fire, cook and find shelter; and later on in their journey, they will cope with the desert using their own strengths.

The trek consists of powerful experiences, does not allow them to run away from or avoid coping; and the boys cope with various difficulties, both physical, emotional and social.

Thanks to the intensive coping, the boys begin to recognize their hidden strengths and sense of competence.  The trek requires them to make a change from dependency to independence, where at the end, they will discover how much they can succeed in charting their life trajectory on their own.

Zoharim Youth Village pupils set out on a tour of the Gaza Envelope, after the October 7th tragedy

Zoharim Youth Village pupils set out on an important and educational tour of the Gaza Envelope and witnessed the difficult sights of the October 7th massacre from up close. They met the heroes, civilians and soldiers, who defended the residents of the Gaza Envelope with their bodies, saving people and protecting the homeland.  The pupils, who are just about to enlist in the IDF, returned from this tour imbued with motivation after hearing the heroic stories of our soldiers, proud of the mutual responsibility that took place on the terrible Shabbat, but mostly, they were infused with a real love of Israel.

Many families have been hit financially due to the war. As Rosh Hashana approaches, let’s give them a ‘Chag Saveah’

For more than twenty years, the Migdal Ohr Organization has run the Chag Saveah (Full Holiday) for Children Campaign, which distributes thousands of food packages to needy families who cannot afford to prepare a holiday meal.

This year, more than ever before, these families, and others, have been hit financially as a result of the war, and need our help.

As part of this important campaign, Migdal Ohr Organization will deliver food packages for the upcoming holiday to thousands of families.  Currently, the organization is running an extensive fundraising campaign at all branches of Shufersal, which has been a partner in this vital campaign for many years.

The organization calls  upon the public at large to contribute, to help us reach as many families as possible by providing them with food products for the holiday.

Together, we will give them a Full Holiday!

Migdal Ohr pupils return to school and remind us all – that the hostages are still in captivity of the Hamas

The school year opened at Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions and it was bittersweet.  The news of the murder of six more hostages in captivity, deeply shocked us.  It has been 11 months, that our pupils and the entire nation has been living in the shadow of war.

This morning,  pupils of the Machshava School arrived for their first day back in yellow shirts, to remind us all that there are still 101 hostages in Hamas captivity.

Rabbi Grossman visited an air force base: “We have witnessed the wonderful expressions of Israeli unity. Our request is that we protect it”

Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman, visited an air force base yesterday, encouraging the ground crew and the pilots who work day and night to protect the security of the State of Israel.

The Rabbi spoke with the soldiers about the importance of the nation’s unity during these days and thanked them for their holy mission to protect the Jewish People.

Rabbi Grossman:  “We have witnessed  the wonderful expressions of Israeli unity.  Our request is that we protect it – so that we are united all the time and not just in times of trouble.  We must be ‘brothers in arms’ on a very basic level – without hatred, without disputes, knowing how to disagree and think differently, but also knowing  that only if we are united – ‘as one man and one heart’ – no other nation can overcome us.  However, if we are not, this is the greatest danger, as we saw what happened.”

The Rabbi strengthened and encouraged and blessed each and every one of them.  At the end of the visit, the Rabbi held a prayer service together with the soldiers for the recovery of our wounded soldiers and the speedy return of all the hostages.
