Migdal Ohr pupils and Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman wish you a happy and blessed new year – a year of peace and security

Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman:  “My dear loved ones, the true partners in the education and rescue of the Migdal Ohr children.

As the new  year approaches, I wish to bless you, in the name of the thousands of Migdal Ohr pupils and in the name of the staff, that the Holy One Blessed Be He grant you a good and blessed year.  We have undergone a very difficult year and we must ask God that this year and its curses be soon over and a new year begin with blessings.

We believe that saving the souls of the children and their education is a great privilege.  As our partners, this privilege will, with God’s help, reward you with a good and blessed year.  A  year of happiness and security.  A year in which the hostages return to us, the IDF wounded soldiers are rehabilitated and have a full recovery, our soldiers return home safely and we all can return to a life of tranquility and security.

Happy and Blessed New Year.

Israel’s Independence Day 5784 (2024) | We will salute Israeli bravery and will not forget our hostages in Gaza

This year, Israel’s Independence Day will be celebrated in a different way.  It is difficult to celebrate and rejoice, when thousands of families had lost their loved ones and joined the circle of bereaved families in recent months and when the families of the hostages are suffering as their loved ones are still held captive in Gaza.

This year, we will recognize and salute Israeli heroism, as it has been expressed in the recent period.  Civilians who  took to the streets to defend their city, reservists who did not hesitate for a moment, leaving everything and going into battle,  members of the rescue forces that risked their lives to save civilians, wonderful people who helped and offered assistance to civilians in their time of need, thousands of volunteers who helped others.  This is the beautiful Israel – the people who make it so.

At the Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions, the State of Israel’s 76th year of independence was celebrated by waving Israeli flags with pride and joy.  Although the regular celebrations were not held at Migdal Ohr, we chose to celebrate the tireless spirit and resilience of the Jewish People, especially during this difficult period for us as a nation.

This morning, at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions, the pupils marked the Holocaust Memorial Day with ceremonies and activities

Today is the Holocaust Memorial Day.

It is our duty to remember and show our solidarity with those who perished in the Holocaust.  At Migdal Ohr Organization, we make sure to present this subject to the children in an appropriate manner.

The memorial ceremonies, the siren and the general atmosphere in the country are part of the Israeli experience and are picked up by the sensitive children.  At Migdal Ohr, thousands of pupils from early childhood to maturity are educated, and we have suited appropriate content and commemorations to mark this important day.

Whoever does not cannot educate them.”

As Passover approaches, the pupils of the Migdal Ohr educational institutions attend a matza baking workshop

Passover is approaching and at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s schools, the holiday spirit can already be felt.  Today, the Migdal Ohr pupils participated in a matzah baking workshop,  experiencing the entire matza baking process from start to finish.

This is a real opportunity for them to learn how to make matzahs and to experience the fascinating process of baking them.  Each pupil kneaded, rolled out and baked their very own matzah, and at the end of the process, they enjoyed the delicious matzah that they made with their own hands.

The Children of the Migdal Ohr Educational Institutions celebrate Purim. Rabbi Grossman: “Their smile is our victory”

On Purim, we customarily say – “V’nahafoch hu” – a reversal –  “Like the days upon which the Jews were relieved of their enemies, and the month which had been transformed for them from one of sorrow to joy, from mourning to festivity.”

We will celebrate the holiday under the shadow of war and remind ourselves that many times our enemies have pursued us and intended to destroy the Jewish People.  The Book of Esther tells the story of the Jewish People in those days and how they arose from an attempt to destroy them and were miraculously saved.

Today, the pupils of the Migdal Ohr educational institutions celebrated the holiday with Purim parties and costumes.  There were many “superhero” costumes, i.e., Israeli soldiers and members of the defense forces.  Soldiers, police officers, pilots, etc. brightening up the school.

The excited pupils could not stop smiling and laughing throughout the day, which was organized by the educational and teaching staff.

During this difficult period, Migdal Ohr ensured that the holiday parties and celebrations would be held.

Rabbi Grossman said: “Their smile and happiness is our victory over the evil enemies who wish to destroy us”.

Today, the Ethiopian Community celebrates the Sigd holiday, which symbolizes love and unity between all the tribes of Israel, and Rabbi Grossman celebrates with them!

It may seem to us like only yesterday, but for many long years, Rabbi Grossman has worked to support the absorption of new immigrants, helping them integrate into Israeli society.  He has always believed that Aliyah is essential to the continuation of the building of the Jewish State in the Land of Israel.  In this way, he also assisted Ethiopian Jews who immigrated to Israel.  He helped with their absorption and included their children in the Migdal Ohr educational institutions that he established.  He provided them with a supportive educational framework and met their needs.  The children who grew up and were educated at Migdal Ohr have successfully integrated into Israeli society and become outstanding citizens.

We wish all of our graduates, who are members of Israel’s Ethiopian community, a happy Sigd holiday!
