In preparation for Passover, the children of the “Migdal Ohr” association are organizing food relief for children who are unable to celebrate the holiday with dignity and joy.

The children of the “Migdal Ohr”, together with hundreds of volunteers from across the country, are making sure that no child goes hungry this upcoming Passover.

As part of the “Chag Sheva for Children” campaign, food packages have begun to be packed for needy families, which will arrive at their homes before the holiday. This is the 22nd year that the “Migdal Ohr” has been helping needy families with food in preparation for the holiday, and this year the Migdal ohr is working to help with the growing demand following the war.

According to National Insurance report published in December 2024, 872,000 children in Israel lived below the poverty line in 2003 and numbers are increasing in light of the heavy burden on many segments of the population due to the ongoing war.

Migdal Ohr reports that 64% of Israelis know a family that needs food assistance. As every year, Migdal Ohr works to ensure that all those families have food on the holiday table.

Students from our Orot BaEmek and Machshava Elementary and Middle Schools participated in a city-wide “Good Deeds Day”

Students from our Orot BaEmek and Machshava Elementary and Middle Schools participated in a city-wide “Good Deeds Day” with high-ranking city officials, council members, and dignitaries.
The day began with a moving ceremony at the local Senior Citizens Center, accompanied by a musical performance by the “Orot Baemek” choir. The event was attended by many distinguished guests from the city and community.
Over the past four months, the students visited the seniors to do activities together, interview them, and collect recipes, stories of immigration, and personal narratives.
The final product was a unique recipe book – a heartfelt blend of “old recipes” alongside “modern recipes” – compiled by the students and presented to the seniors and guests. The seniors were very touched seeing their personal recipes documented for future generations. Later, a group of “Machshava” students put on a concert for the residents to wrap up the moving day together.
Intergenerational events like these strengthen the social fabric of Israel and create a link between generations that gives children a sense of where they come from.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Good Deeds Day!

הרב גרוסמן מקריא סיפור לתלמידות

Rabbi Grossman celebrated Family Day together with the children of the “Migdal Ohr”. It is a family day, a day that the whole family celebrates together. A suitable day to visit his thousands of children.

Rabbi Yitzhak Dovid Grossman is the father of thousands of boys and girls in Israel – children who came from difficult places, who experienced a complex reality, who need someone to believe in them. For them, he is the supporting shoulder, the hand that caresses, the smile that shines and the heart that is always open.

In each of his visits to the “Migdal Ohr” institutions, like the last visit to the “Pirchei Ora” school, he stops, listens, asks each boy and girl how they are doing, genuinely interested. He sits with them, learns with them, tells them a story and strengthens them with words that will stay with them for life. Because for them – he is not “like a father”, he is a father to all intents and purposes.

On this Family Day, we salute Rabbi Grossman for his long-standing role as a father to thousands of children in Israel. A father who dedicates his life to give every child a warm home, love, faith, and a real chance to succeed.

In honor of Family Day, we would like to thank all the special families who joined the “MISHPACHTONIM” project in “Migdal Ohr” .

children who have lost the feeling of belonging to a family receive love, warmth and support in a loving family environment at the “MISHPACHTONIM” Project. On each floor of the mishpachtonim buildings, a family lives in its own apartment alongside 12 children who live next to it. The children receive a warm home, stability and attention, and feel, some of them for the first time in their lives, part of a warm and loving family. Rabbi Yitzhak Dovid Grossman, the founder of the project, founded the nurseries with the belief that children need more than a boarding educational setting – they need a family. Every family wraps the children in love, and gives them a sense of family and a family model. On this Family Day, we thank these special families for their tremendous giving and the love they give to these children, it goes without saying, Happy Family Day!

“orange benches” project of Migdal Ohr to commemorate the members of the Biebs family who were murdered in captivity by Hamas

In the Migdal Ohr carpentry workshop, the students thought of an original way to commemorate the members of the Biebs family who were kidnapped and murdered by Hamas. The students built benches, KKL tables and swings, all of their own handiwork, which will be placed around the boarding school yard. All the items were designed and painted in the orange hue in memory of Kafir, Ariel and Shiri Biebs. When the students saw the product after a lot of sweat in carpentry, their self-confidence was strengthened and the feelings of success rose in them, but above all, they felt an obligation to give a little something of themselves for the perpetuation of the family.
מסיבת חנוכה

During the week, the children of the “Migdal Ohr” celebrated with Hanukkah parties and special sessions for the holiday. We came to banish the darkness!

We came to banish darkness Today is the eighth candle of Hanukkah, we can already summarize and say – nothing can extinguish the candle of our children. During the week, the children of the “Migdal Ohr” celebrated in all the various educational institutions founded by Rabbi Yitzhak Dovid Grossman, with Hanukkah parties and special sessions for the holiday. Despite the difficult times we are going through, our children never stop seeing the light and teach us how much stronger the light is than the darkness.

The students of the “Afiki Ohr” youth village went on a volunteer day at a nursing home for elderly people and brought light to the old residents

The students of the “Afiki Or” youth village of the “Migdal Or” association went on a volunteer day at an old people’s home and brought the farm animals of the village with them so that our senior citizens could enjoy them as well. The students, most of whom are defined as at risk, not only brought joy to the residents of the nursing home but also gained valuable life skills through the empowering experience. During the visit, the students, who regularly take care of animals as part of their agricultural studies, brought rabbits and parrots from the village. The animals played a central role in the activities and provided the senior citizens with moments of connection and enjoyment while petting and interacting with them. The highlight of the day was a special workshop led by the students, in which they taught the old residents how to make flower pots with macrame covers. The students demonstrated leadership, responsibility and communication skills, and acquired tools that will serve them in the future. In addition, they spent time playing board games and talking with the residents, giving warmth, a lot of attention and brightening their day. This initiative not only brought happiness to the elderly nursing home residents but also empowered the female students who returned with a sense of pride and achievement in their significant contribution. This is an excellent example of how the educational institutions of the Migdal Ohr teach their students the importance of giving to others. At Migdal Ohr, the students learn that no matter what you have, you can always give, support and make a difference in someone else’s life.

Due to the war, the desert trek for Zoharim’s 11th graders was cancelled. A year later, they are now participating in this life-changing journey

The war prevented Zoharim Youth Village 11th graders from participating in the challenging desert trek; however, they have already learned – never give up!  Now, as 12th graders, they are going to the Negev to discover our beautiful country, but primarily to discover themselves.

The desert trek is held every year and enables pupils to experience the desert, to cope with the physical and emotional challenges, to gain the tools to cope with life’s challenges, to develop emotional fortitude and belief in their own abilities and to strengthen their sense of competence. Through a therapeutic – educational intervention in the field, over 5 days of a challenging trek, they gain new abilities and reveal others that they didn’t know they had, prior to entering society.
